Concepts from either Chapter 9 or Chapter 13

I though the Inform to Educate paragraph from chapter 13 was interesting. A line from the book states, “A successful informative speaker informs the audience in a way that educates them.” I think all speakers have something interesting to say and we can all learn something new from them. They aren’t always interesting but informative none the less. I remember one time I went to an event in SJSU and there were people giving out a lot of different information. Once a big group gathers there was this group who tried to inform people about Jesus and get them to join their church group. I’m not religious but I thought things that the speakers spoke about were interesting.

  1. Hello Niko!

I like the quote that you took from the Chapter 13 text. With the informative speech we are educating people about are topic and what it is all about. Like the religious group you were talking about, it is the same thing if we were in class listening to a guest speaker. They are informing us about a topic they are probably really passionate about. For instance, there was a certain cultural artifact speech that was presented about the cross when we all got together for the first meeting. She really did effect me and it made me decide that I should actually stick to lent for once. Surprisingly, I haven't cheated or snapped! ;)

  2. I found a lot of useful concepts in chapter 13, and I agree that a successful informative speaker should inform the audience in a way that educates them. In order to grab the audience's attention, you have to present to them something they want to know, something new to learn. From watching previous speeches given in high school, I found a lot of the audience uninformed of what is going on. They are not paying attention to the speaker what so ever because the speech wasn’t interesting. I think that this is because people gave speeches about something we already knew, like a speech on war. The majority of the school knows what is going on about war, so why not talk about something we don’t know?

  3. Hello!

I also like the quote that you used from the chapter 13 text. I agree that in order to be able to be a successful informative speaker, you need to be able to educate the audience on a topic. During my senior year, we had to do a research paper as well as a speech on a topic that we wanted to inform the class about. By watching these speeches, I learned a lot about things that I never would have thought about if they hadn't been brought up. Even though some were extremely boring, I defeinitely felt educated and loved listening to everyone's speeches. I always find it interesting when someone talks about a subject that everyone does not know about.

    :)
