Experiences with conducting research interviews
I remember that I had interviewed my boss’s son about his career for a homework assignment. He was a tax preparer who majored in economics. My purpose for interviewing him was to see what it was like to have a career in business because that’s what I wanted to major in. The interview went well, I got a lot of information but I think it could have gone better. I asked general questions like how and why he went into a business major, what are some benefits and any tips. I probably should have practiced the interview before doing it. When I asked him for the interview I was kind of nervous. An advice would be to write down all questions you might have for the interviewee, so when you are interviewing you won’t have to worry about forgetting a question or anything.

Interviewing your boss's son about his career sounds pretty interesting. Economics was never really my favorite subject in high school, but it still sounds fascinating coming from a tax preparer even though tax preparing and economics are not directly related. I agree that you probably should have created more questions before hand. I think that that would have made the interview process a little smoother. Although you already asked him why he chose tax preparing as a job, perhaps you could have also asked him why he didn't choose other jobs that were available to him. Those are just my thoughts on extending questions to obtain more information. :) Good luck Niko!

ReplyDeleteThat's a good tip to know that we should write down questions before we interview someone so we do not have to think of questions on the spot. It can relieve our stress by doing that and you could probably get more out of the interview and it will go smoothly. & thinking about the interview going well can also be helpful. Thinking about what could happen during the interview can be smart. But did the interview with your boss's son make you want to stay in the major? Did it help you decide, or change your major in anyway? just wooondering haha
