Interesting concept chapter 5

I read a passage about how people multitask a lot when they are doing things. Like how when someone is watching a small clip from the internet and at the same time they can be listening to music or texting on their phone. According to the book, people like rapid information but a speaker shouldn’t deliver their information the same way. The audience wants more than just bits of information and it’s up to the speaker to capture their attention. I recall back in high school during presentations and speeches, there were always people whispering to each other, texting, or even listening to their mp3s. It was rude of them but the speakers themselves were kind of boring and bland when they were presenting.

  1. Hi Niko, I found the multitasking topic interesting as well. I find that people talking, texting, or listening to music while a speech is being implemented is also extremely rude. I suppose I would not blame them for side tracking because of the speaker's blandness, but it is still disrespectful. I also like information to be given to me in a fast pace, especially if it is in a classroom where the atmosphere is silent and boring. However, I would not like for a speaker to rush through his or her topic because I would only get the gist of it. If the topic does not capture my interest, however, I will want the speaker to speed up the speech. If the topic is of some interest, I would love to go deeper into the subject.

  2. Hello Niko! What made the speaker's boring back in high school? How will you try and make your speech interesting? And, what types of things will you do if you feel your audience is distracted?

  3. I see where you are going with the presentation of the speaker. It is up to them to be dynamic in presenting. I also remember students doing those things in my high school too, even now in college. People pay more attention to those who speak with energy and purpose. It is a lot of pressure though, to be passionate about something you may not want to talk about. This really makes me want to find a topic that I am interested in when I do speeches. I really do not want to be that bland kind of person. So it is important to speak in a way that will be appealing to the audience and find something about the topic they can relate to.
