Sea of persuasion

There’s persuasion everywhere I go. Family, friends, and random people have sent persuasive messages to me. From buying things, eating certain foods, and ways to do things people prefer their way of doing it and tell others to do it also. The media’s messages try to make consumers buy their products by showing them how their product is better and what they are good for. Television commercials are the most convincing advertisement to me, just because I can actually see people and objects being demonstrated. To become a more critical consumer of persuasive messages, I think about the pros and cons of the persuasive message before buying it.

  1. Hello Niko!
I too felt the same way about the media and its way of using persuasion. People may not even realize when they are being persuaded to do something. For instance, if someone tells you to do something that is act of persuasion, but people generally think of the media when it comes to persuasion. I also agree with you when it comes to television commercials, especially those infomercials! I get really interested in the product, and want to try it for myself. But most of the time when I get the urge to buy something I think it over like you said with the pros and cons of he persuasive message. So it is a good thing you had noticed that as well.

  2. Hey Niko,
I totally agree with you in each different form of persuasion from interpersonal to mass media. I agree that infomercials are more convincing than Mass Media because you are able to see a person testing out the product. However, be aware because most of the time the product is shown only its best qualities without letting you know the negatives or the downsides. I think you are a great critical consumer of persuasive messages if you really think about the pros and cons because that means you do not simply take their word for it and you think of its advantages as well as disadvantages.

  3. Hey Niko!
I can agree that a lot of the media is full of persuasion. Those infomercials are totally addicting something, because they're just too predictable. They're always going to show a similar product but make it look so much worse than their product. And the price and shipping is very tricky! "As low as $19.95!" [Through 4 payments]. I watch the commercials, but I never buy anything over the phone from those commercials. I am a skeptical person. I won't buy anything unless i really see it at a store or something. Or if a fiend happened to order something from a commercial and it happens to work well, that's when I would actually consider.

its true, persuasion is everywhere! i am persuaded into everything everytime especially from my friends and family. for example, the other day my friend wanted to go eat when i already ate and persuaded me into going with him to eat. of course i went because i got persauded but i just thought about the sea of persuasion at that time haha. but yea i dont know what it is but a person with good persuasion skills are the ones that know a lot about things they are persuading you into. i dont know if that made any sense but yea hha
